On September 26, the Bedford Planning Board voted to approve a special permit for 60 Great Road (on the corner of Fletcher Road) under the provisions of the Great Road/ Center subdistrict zoning. The proposal adds a new 2-family dwelling to the back of an existing office property and is considered "horizontal mixed use" under the zoning bylaw. The parking lot on the site will also be altered, making it more compact, and new landscaping will be provided in the form of plantings and a section of fence. During the hearing, the footprint of the proposed building was shifted to be further from the neighbor's property line.
The owners, Peg and Ted Bernhardt, operate the "Right at Home" business from the existing office building, which will remain. The decision is subject to confirmation of DPW's satisfaction with submitted engineering details, and the applicants have agreed to report back to the Planning Board on their exploration of suggestions to add solar panels and to reduce or eliminate proposed gas appliances.
The proposal will also need approval from the Historic District Commission.
