Mission

Provide nutritious food and personal items with dignity, supporting the health and well-being of every household. The Bedford Food Bank (BFB) motto is “Sharing Good Food.”

Addressing Food Insecurity in Bedford

From 1991 to early 2020, the Bedford Community Table/Pantry (BCT/P), a long-standing nonprofit organization, provided hands-on support to address food insecurity in Bedford. Every Thursday, volunteers served a free community dinner at the Town Center Building and distributed grocery bags to residents in need. In March 2020, as the COVID-19 pandemic began, BCT/P paused food distribution operations, and the BFB was established. The BFB served 50 households that first week of operation. The BFB is a service of the Town of Bedford, staffed by the Town and a dedicated volunteer corps and offers a weekly distribution of food and household supplies. The BFB’s mission is to provide nutritious food and personal items with dignity, supporting the health and well-being of every household. The BFB motto is “Sharing Good Food.” With funding support from BCT/P, the greater Bedford community, and other grantors as well partnerships with the Greater Boston Food Bank, Merrimack Valley Food Bank, Chip-In Farm, FoodLink, Gaining Ground and Dignity Matters, among others, the BFB continues to operate weekly, providing food and supplies to the Bedford community. As of November 2025, demand at the BFB has increased by over 60% from the same time last year.

Current BFB Programs

Now in its sixth year, the BFB offers three core services: a Thursday afternoon drive-through, home delivery, and a self-service locker program where guests who cannot attend the drive-through can come to the Town Center Building and retrieve a distribution at their convenience.

The BFB is a Town of Bedford program, open to any household that would benefit from free nutritious food and household supplies. In addition to pantry staples, the BFB offers a wide variety of fresh produce, meat and vegetarian protein, dairy products, diapers, feminine care, pet food, as well as household products. We work to reduce the stigma of food insecurity and welcome guests from Bedford and surrounding areas. While the vast majority of BFB guests are from Bedford, we understand some Bedford residents receive supportive food services from other communities, to maintain their anonymity. For that same reason, the BFB extends services to the greater Bedford community with a goal of sharing good food and other supplies, in a dignified manner, that will support the health and well-being any household in need.

Drive-through

To access the BFB drive-through at 12 Mudge Way, please proceed to the parking lot at the rear of the Town Center Building, near the Council on Aging main entrance (see map below). The BFB drive-through is open Thursdays from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm. There is no need to pre-register but for safety reasons arriving and lining-up before 3:30 pm is not permitted.

When guests arrive, volunteers place the bags directly in the trunk, back seat, or cargo area of their vehicle. Guests remain in their vehicles, but those arriving on foot can also receive a food bundle.

Home Delivery

The BFB offers a home delivery program for homebound and disabled Bedford residents. If you are a homebound resident and in need of food assistance, please email the Bedford Food Bank or call 781-918-4316 to access home delivery services.

Food Lockers

Self-service locker program is available where guests who cannot attend the drive-through program can come to the Town Center and retrieve their distribution at their convenience.  The 15-unit refrigerated lockers are located outside the COA main entrance (see map below). Bedford is one of the first communities in the region to implement a program of this kind. To place an order for the food locker distribution, please call 781-918-4316. Once an order is placed, guests receive a code that opens the locker assigned to them and they can retrieve their refrigerated bundle during a designated window of time. Access codes are valid for a limited time to protect food quality and safety.
