Bedford CCA Renewed for Three Years through November 2027

Latest News Posted on September 17, 2024

The Town of Bedford announces the renewal of its Bedford Community Choice Aggregation (CCA) program, with new prices for November 2024 through November 2027. Bedford CCA is a group purchasing program, operated by the Town since 2019 which provides electricity supply options to help residents and businesses manage costs and increase renewable energy use. Current participants do not need to take any action to remain in the program and receive the new pricing.

The program offers three options—Bedford Basic, Bedford Mid, and Bedford Local Green—each providing different amounts of renewable energy.

The Town is excited to be increasing the amount of renewable energy in our community default option, Bedford Local Green: it will now provide 100% renewable energy.

All new Bedford CCA prices will be fixed for 36 months, from November 2024 through November 2027.

The Program will be served by a new supplier, Direct Energy:

Over 4,000 accounts in Town, which includes the vast majority of residents, use the Bedford Local Green option. They will receive 100% renewable energy starting in November.

You may switch to another Bedford CCA option at any time. To switch options, call our program’s current electricity supplier, NextEra Energy Services, at 855-639-8185, or submit a request at BedfordCCA.com.

Most participants don’t need to do anything to get the new price for your current Bedford supply option. For example, if you use Bedford Basic, you will automatically get the new Bedford Basic price. However, the Bedford Local Green 50% and 100% options will not be available in the new contract. Customers using these will be automatically switched to the new Bedford Local Green product, which is 100% renewable energy (38% MA Class I + 62% state minimum). You will be moved to this new option automatically unless you choose something else.

To check what Bedford CCA supply option you currently use, look at the Supply section of your Eversource electricity bill. If you participate in the program it will include the “Old Price” listed above, or if you use the discontinued products, it will show 12.022 ¢/kWh for Bedford Local Green 50%, or 13.847 for Bedford Local Green 100%.

New prices take effect on your November 2024 meter read, which for most of the community is on October

25. The first bill to show the new Bedford CCA pricing will be the bill you receive showing usage from your November 2024 meter read to December 2024 meter read. Most customers can expect to receive this bill in late November 2024.

The Town’s current electricity contract has offered fixed prices since December 2021, providing multiple years of price stability. Most participants use the Bedford Local Green, which has saved about $2,000 for the typical residential customer over that time, while also providing an additional 20% renewable energy. Bedford CCA’s default and optional products include voluntary renewable energy that exceeds the State renewable energy requirement (62% renewable in 2024). These products include voluntary renewable energy called MA Class I RECs, which are sourced from New England or nearby areas. Town-wide, our program has had a major environmental impact, purchasing 7,500 megawatt hours (MWh) annually, which avoids over 5 million pounds of carbon pollution each year.

As a reminder, Bedford CCA prices only apply to the Supply portion of your electric bill and take effect on your meter read date. Eversource will continue to set the charges on the Delivery on your electric bill and will repair outages and manage all billing. Bedford CCA has no impact on any solar benefits, low-income discounts, or budget billing plans.

If you are not currently participating in Bedford CCA, you can join any time. To join, submit a request at BedfordCCA.com.

Bedford CCA participants may leave the Program at any time, without penalty and return to Basic Service supply with Eversource. To leave the Program, call Eversource at (800) 592-2000, or submit a request at BedfordCCA.com.
