Health Insurance Enrollment Information

The Town offers health insurance through the Group Insurance Commission (GIC). The effective date of coverage for new hires depends on the employee's start date. New hires should submit their enrollment forms to HR within 15 days of their start date to avoid delays. Enrollments must be sent to GIC within 21 days of your hire date (the 21-day deadline includes your date of hire). To enroll dependents, marriage and/or birth certificates must be provided.  Please refer to this list of required documentation for GIC coverage.

Current employees have an opportunity to make changes to their benefits during open enrollment (annually in April-May) or within 60 days of a qualifying event (such as a marriage, divorce, birth, or loss of other coverage).

Employees can manage their GIC health insurance online using the MyGIC Link Member Benefits Portal, but we ask that you contact HR first before enrolling or changing your insurance through MyGICLink so that we can ensure it is processed correctly.

To inquire about benefits or to determine if you have a qualifying event contact the Town Human Resources office at 781-687-6181 or humanresources@bedfordma.gov (if you are a Town employee or a retiree).  School employees should contact the School Business office at hrdept@bedfordps.org or 781-918-4703.

Dental Insurance

The Town offers Delta Dental Insurance for active employees. As a new employee, your dental insurance begins on your first day of employment. You have 30 days from your start date to enroll in dental insurance. The Dental plan runs on a calendar year.

If your dependent is age 19 or older, they may only be covered if they are a full-time student at a qualified college, university or institution. You will need to submit two forms with your enrollment form:

Both forms are required to submit every year before September 1. If forms are not submitted, your dependent's coverage will be automatically terminated.
