  1. Filing Intentions to Run for Office with the Town Clerk (Forms and nomination papers become available on December 12, 2023 at the Town Clerk’s Office)

Wednesday, January 17, 2024 by 5:00 p.m. is the deadline for obtaining nomination papers and filing intentions to run for office with the Town Clerk’s Office. Each candidate must submit a signed statement of their intention to be a candidate (on a form provided by the Town Clerk) in person at the Town Clerk’s Office. Upon filing, each candidate will receive five nomination papers for collecting signatures. State law requires fifty signatures of registered voters in Bedford that can be certified by the Board of Registrars, however it is recommended to obtain more than fifty in case some signatures cannot be certified.

Friday, January 19, 2024 by 5:00 p.m. is the deadline to return nomination papers to the Town Clerk’s Office for certification of signatures. Signatures should be substantially in the same form as the individual is registered. This means the Board of Registrars may certify a signature when the middle name or initial has been included or excluded, but the street address must include the street number as registered.
