Sign Bylaw Review Committee PDF Print E-mail

Charge

Recommend a set of amendments to the Sign Bylaw that would among other things address the following concerns:

  1. Potential conflicts in the bylaw with the US Constitution and related case law specifically for residentially zoned properties;
  2. Ability of the Zoning Board of Appeals to grant relief from the literal requirements for signage under the bylaw;
  3. Potential modification to dimension requirements for freestanding signs in industrial zones;
  4. Current limitation of one freestanding sign in industrial zones;
  5. Consideration towards establishing reasonable limit on the number and size of political signs permitted on a single residential lot;
  6. Review of flag provisions;
  7. Review of window sign illumination provisions for businesses such as open signs, decorative/string lights, etc.;
  8. Review of temporary sign provisions;
  9. Review of general sign permit ZBA review process required under certain sections of bylaw and resulting time delays for applicants;
  10. Other matters as may be identified by the Selectmen or proposed committee.
